Hello, and welcome to the official results post for the 2017 Sandcastle Building Contest! We had some amazing entries, and I had a whole range of difficult decisions to make when judging them. Overall, we had 14 valid entries, and as such I decided the results myself based on my experience with previous build contests and as manager of The Coast Build Team.

You can view the results in game with the /sandcastle command!
NOTE: You will be in spectator mode in this command and will not be able to walk around, but you can change the direction you are viewing by moving your mouse.

For this build contest we are doing things a bit differently by allowing you to get up close to the builds using the /sandcastle command, which will automatically teleport you around the entries (in a similar way to how /tutorial works). This post is for me to highlight some of the awesome details and work that are in the builds, and explain my thoughts for some of the top builds.

But firstly, here is a full list of the results and the new and improved prizes! Trophies will be delivered today at each entrant's sandcastle.

    Participant Notes

Due to the overall strength of entries to this competition, it was a very tough choice even at the lower end of the entries. I really liked how Omgo3033 incorporated both usual sand and red sand, which overall was not that common in the entries and LegoloverMC also used concrete powder to add more colour which helped develop a unique colour scheme. StrikerzRyan made one of the biggest entires to the contest, although was restricted from getting up further in the rankings due to a lack of extra details. MLGesusDrew and ThatOneJuliet both had awesome concept ideas which helped to make their builds stand out. WheresMyPieSammy had a really nice area built, but lacked some of the sophisticated detailing that other entries had.

    Runner Up Notes

Caleb__ created a really nice entry, with a good exterior and an excellent interior. I loved how they brought additional colour into the build with the oak wood and the clay, and appreciate the attention to detail with the matching dyed armour on armour stands. A detail which could have been improved on was the cobble floating base, and admittedly while it wold have been challenging to make a full base as it is on water, even using sandstone for another few blocks would have made the use of cobble less obvious.

I loved the fun structures which jessielizzie23 had incorporated into their build area, and I really liked the design of sandcastle with the glass and pointed walls, which in some ways reminded me of typical styling of old churches. The interior has good ideas, although some of it is not quite complete which prevented this build from scoring higher.

The block palette used by ElectricksGamer was unusual but worked exceptionally well, and I love the Persian influences for the overall design. There was a really attention to detail and consideration of how to make a really memorable build. I would have loved it if there was a bit more interior design or a few rooms which could have filled some of the larger balcony spaces more effectively.

KangTheWeirdOne created a really nice area for their build which I really appreciated, along with the decision to also use red sandstone. One of my favourite parts of the build was the inclusion of the banner surfboards, which I thought was a really fun and creative idea!

The final runner up was iiPizza, a former member of The Coast Build Team, and she definitely didn't disappoint. The area was not the largest, but was completed to a very professional standard and I like the inclusion of the yellow concrete powder to add extra interest and originality to the build.

    Finalist - TacquoBell

I absolutely loved the creative and original elements of this build, taking the concept of a sandcastle and extending it over a village area. There was huge attention to detail and really awesome interior design elements which really took the build to another level. I think overall to have made this a stronger entry would have been an inclusion of a more central 'castle' as part of the village area in which the best skills and ideas could have been shown.

    Finalist - midal

midal is no stranger to Coast build contests, having won two previously, and also has been a member of The Coast Build Team. This was another amazing entry, and I loved that the castle was very castle-like, while still being original and having lots of fun and detailed interior designs - I might even have to steal a few of these ideas for my own builds; I really liked the bar room design with the XP bottles! This was extremely close to being the winning build, congratulations.

    Grand Prize Winner - okzach

In many ways I feel that okzach's build is a perfect mix of ideas that had been shown in entries from WheresMyPieSammy, TacquoBell and midal. okzach's build is a stunning mix of the sandcastle concept with a village-like area, with the exterior completed to a very high standard, despite sticking almost entirely to a sandstone/sand mix. However, it is the mix of skills that have been shown which really sets this entry ahead of others, with great custom trees and farms, quirky ideas for detailing (such as the coloured bed sunshade, or having parrots around the builds to add a tropical vibe), and the ability to include water in a fun but non-disruptive way. Similarly, he was still able to keep the build bright and fun with the inclusion of colours and flowers, helping to make this a beautiful area to look around. While it is a bit disappointing that the interior has not been completed for all of the structures, I felt that there was a broad enough range of other skills shown and such a strong attention to detail that made this a winning build.

Thank you to everyone who entered into this contest and making it into such a success! We'll be doing more build contests on the server soon.

Will there be a video montage of all the builds, like the other build comp?
